Our Breeding Policy
We are a small family run licensed kennel - we care for our dogs to the very best standards and only breed from top quality, health checked dogs. No one can completely remove all health risks from purchasing a dog but we try to reduce these to a minimum by only breeding from BVA checked dogs – all our dogs are hip scored and eye tested. We will show you the certificates during your visit and copies are available on request.
We feel temperament is as important as looks and again will only breed from dogs that have outstanding temperaments. You can meet our dogs and see this for yourself.
Our aim is to breed a healthy family dog that is easy to train and own with a loving temperament that will be part of your family for life. We are not breeders of designer dogs and will not line breed or in breed at any time. We are completely opposed to the many breeding practices that take place for the show ring which inevitably end in genetic illnesses and mental health problems.
The RSPCA and the BBC have recently made a programme on these problems. It can be viewed on line through several sources. Just type pedigree dogs into google and you will be able to access several sites showing the programme.
We do not neuter puppies and are totally against this practise which sadly is carried out by many breeders. For a puppy under 8 weeks of age to go through a full anaesthetic and such a major operation (especially bitches) is barbaric. The only reason this is carried out by breeder is to stop you breeding with their dogs. We have no issue with you breeding with any of our dogs - that is your option when you purchase a puppy.
All our dogs are exercised daily, have toys and play areas, and are kept in clean and comfortable surroundings. Our dogs probably have more attention and exercise than many pets as they have someone with them from 7.30 am until 9.30 pm each day. They are never left alone and always have the company of a human or kennel mate. Our puppies are therefore very well socialised. You are always welcome to view the parents and also any littermates and all documentation. It is our intention to breed top quality, healthy dogs with wonderful temperaments that will be part of your family for life.
Booking and Payment Policy
We book puppies on payment of a £150 deposit (taken over the telephone by card) which is refundable in full should anything happen to the pups or if when you come to view them at eight weeks you decide you do not want to proceed due to the quality of the pups or dissatisfaction in any way with us as a breeder.
We also retain the right to return your deposit should we feel you are not able to offer the dog a suitable home.
The only time we will keep a booking deposit is if you just change your mind without coming to visit us and view the puppies or just do not turn up for the appointment.
When you pay your booking deposit we will email you a receipt and an information pack on preparing to have your puppy home. (If we have not already sent you one).
We will also book an appointment for you to come to choose your puppy - these appointments are in strict order of booking – so the order of deposits gives you the order of choice from the litter. Viewing appointments are normally for the first weekend after the puppies are 8 weeks of age and have been fully vetted, microchipped and received their first vaccination.
When you come to choose your puppy you will be able to see all the relevant paperwork and parents. If you decide not to proceed you will receive a full refund on the card you used to pay the deposit.
If you do wish to proceed you will be able to spend time with the puppies on an individual and group basis in our puppy play room. When you have choosen your puppy we will spend a further 30 – 40 minutes on paperwork and answering any questions you may have. You will be provided with a puppy information sheet, as a part of your puppy pack, which covers how to travel your puppy home.
Once you have chosen your puppy we require payment in full which is no longer refundable. Your puppy can leave with you on the day or stay with us for a maximum of 2 weeks or until the puppy is a maximum of 12 weeks whichever is the sooner. No charge is made for keeping the puppy here for a further amount of time but you may have to pay for a further vaccination at a cost of £24.
It is important to note that as we specialise in cross breeds no guarantee can be given to height, weight or adult colour. We endeavour to give you approximate figures based on the parents, previous litters and our experience. However, as with your children, when you are breeding from a broad genetic base you will get variation within a litter and some puppies will mature larger or smaller and can resemble their grandparents or even great grandparents both in size weight and colour.
Payment methods - we accept cash, cheques and debit card payments for deposits.
We only accept cleared funds for final or full payments when the puppy is leaving i.e. cash, debit card or bankers draft.
We do accept credit cards but you will be charged an additional 2.5% to cover the bank charges we have to pay.
If you are unable to keep your puppy for any reason
Once you have chosen a puppy or if you cannot keep your puppy after purchase for any reason whatsoever we will have the puppy back and care for him on your behalf for a period up to a maximum of 7 days. After this period we will rehome the puppy but no payment or refund will be made.
Adult dogs purchased from us can be returned and we will care for them until they can be rehomed without charge. However we will not make any refund or payment.
This is on the basis of the puppy/dog being in good health and being returned to our kennels at your own cost.
All puppies are fully vetted prior to leaving us. Any illness or veterinary problem or injury that occurs from the time you collect your puppy should be covered under your Pet Plan insurance policy, which is provided by us free of charge with the puppy on collection. It is your responsibility to insure the puppy for veterinary fees and loss after the six week policy has expired and Pet Plan will contact you before this date.
Purchasers Rights
These are as set out by the Kennel Club in their recommended contract - a copy of this recommendation can be obtained from the Kennel Club.
You have 14 days for your puppy to be examined by a practising veterinary surgeon and shall have the right during a period not exceeding 7 days after such examination to return the dog because of a defect (other than described on the veterinary report sheet). If there is a defect (other than those described on the vet report sheet) a written vets certificate from the said veterinary surgeon that the condition pre-exists the purchase date must be provided. On production of such certificate within the time frame and on the return of the puppy the purchase price will be refunded in full or we will offer you an alternative puppy.
If the condition is pre existing and you wish to keep the puppy we will make a refund to you of between 10% and 50% of the purchase price again on receipt of a full veterinary report which must state that the condition existed prior to purchase.
Our insurance company will deal with any claims in excess of this amount or beyond the terms of our puppy policy.
If you have any questions on our puppy policy please telephone 01633 400153 or email us.
