Wentwood Labradoodles are specialist breeders of F1, F1b and F2b Labradoodles and Goldendoodles.
Labradoodles are a mix of Poodle either Standard or Miniature with Labrador Retriever.
Goldendoodles are a mix of Poodle either Standard or Miniature with Golden Retriever.
The F1 Goldendoodle usually has a much longer coat than and F1 Labradoodle.
We breed six sizes of Labradoodle and Goldendoodle puppies: -
Large standard standing 25 – 28” at the shoulder.
Small standard standing 21 – 24” at the shoulder.
Large medium standing 20 - 21” at the shoulder.
Small medium standing 18 - 19” at the shoulder.
Miniature standing 16 -18"at the shoulder.
Toy standing under 16” at the shoulder.
As a general rule the smaller the mature height the more expensive the puppy.
We breed F1, F1b and F2b puppies. We
do not breed beyond F2 as we believe that by doing this you are recreating the very pedigree monster you are trying to get away from. To breed beyond this point in a healthy way would require a huge number of dogs and this is not possible in the UK.
Ethical breeding is the core of our breeding policy and we do not line or in breed. To go beyond F2 would inevitably require line or in breeding which defeats the whole purpose of cross breeding.
We believe anyone breeding beyond F2 is doing so for appearance (coats) sake to produce a “designer dog” and not for the future wellbeing of Labradoodles. Puppies in our litters are all slightly different, as are your children, and this is their strength.
We breed dogs in several colours - black, chocolate, red, cream and apricot - look at the variety of colours above. There are also many shades within each colour.
We also breed puppies with different coats from short scruffy hair to long and fleecy. These coats also come in different textures from fleece (wool) to very soft to wiry. Different coats are suitable for different families and you need to read the more detailed information on this page with regard to the various types of Labradoodle.
It can be very confusing when you read all the information on the web - we have tried to simplify it in this information sheet.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN F1,F1b and F2b ? Labradoodle F1 puppies are the first cross and are 50% Labrador and 50% Poodle. They are normally very healthy and have all the health benefits of what is termed hybrid vigour.
One of the greatest benefits of the F1 is that they are far apart genetically –this gives good health, far less genetically inherited disease and an outstanding temperament and mentality. However this also means that each puppy in the litter is an individual as your children would be. Therefore you will see a wide variety of coats and looks within a litter. Also you must always remember the coat you see as a puppy is not the coat you will have on the adult dog. The smoothest puppy will still grow into a very scruffy mutt! We can show you photos of various coats when you visit or have a look on our Testimonials page.
As puppies their coats will vary from short (looking just like a Labrador), medium to long. All lengths will continue to grow and become very scruffy in varying degrees. The coat can also be straight or wavy. It is never curly. The coat can also be soft or wiry or in between.
F1 puppies will always have a hair coat not a fleece.
The F1 will have a lower allergen level than a Labrador and will shed considerably less coat. F1’s moult around 50% less than a Labrador but they still moult considerably so they are not normally suitable for those with dog allergies.
F1 coats are generally easy to care for and do not require clipping. Obviously scruffy, shorter coats being the easiest.
The F1 is very easy to train, very affectionate and excellent for families especially with young children or very noisy households. They are also ideal for those with outdoor lifestyles i.e. mud, beaches etc.
The F1 is also the ideal choice for gun work, agility, flyball or other active pursuits.F1’s are generally extremely healthy and the toughest type of Labradoodle. They are very outgoing having 50% Labrador and require more discipline and training during the first year than other types of Labradoodle. Ideal for very noisy children and active families.
Have a look at
Eddie, Jazz, Fizzy, Grace, Alfie and Bobby on the Testimonial Page of our website.Take note of how much they change from a pup to the adult dog. This coat grows from 6 months onwards.
F1b Labradoodles are 75% Poodle and 25% Labrador i.e. an F1 Labradoodle put back to an unrelated pure Poodle. This produces wow factor puppies with amazing coats.
Within an F1b litter you will have both hair and fleece (wool)coats. Fleece coats can be better for allergy sufferers or for owners who want a dog that sheds very little. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO DOG CAN BE GUARANTEED NON ALLERGENIC AS IT MAY BE THE DANDER OR SALIVA TO WHICH YOU ARE ALLERGIC AND SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL ALLERGIC TO PURE POODLES.
Fleece coats
require regular grooming and care and regular removal of hair from the inside of the ears. They may need to be clipped and you should consider this carefully when you consider buying this type of puppy. The up side is that they are very low shedding and very clean in the house. The down side is that you must be prepared to give them the care and attention they need.
You will also pay more for this type of coat as they are in high demand.
Look at
some fleece coated dogs Monty, Rollo and Jack on our Labradoodles Testimonials page.F1b Hair Coats are generally long and very attractive but they will shed. Usually less than an F1 but they definitely moult. Again they have a much lower allergen level than a Lab but this does not mean they are suitable for allergy sufferers.
F1b Labradoodles are very person centred, extremely loving and playful. They are highly intelligent and easy to train. They are ideal for sensitive types of children and make incredible companions. Also extremely good for people or children with disabilities. Also good housedogs they will protect your children and your home.
Labradoodles especially F1b Labradoodles are LESS allergenic to many people but no one can guarantee that you or your children will not be allergic to them if you are already allergic to other dogs. Anyone with a severe allergy especially asthma should consult their doctor and have allergy testing carried out before even considering purchasing a puppy. It is traumatic for all the family for a pup to have to be rehomed because of allergies. Please think carefully.
F2b Labradoodles are 62.5% Poodle and 37.5% Labrador. They are bred from an F1 mated to an F1b.
They are super dogs and are very similar in all ways to the F1b dogs described above.
Goldendoodles are bred from a Golden Retriever rather than a Labrador. The F1 cross produces very gentle dogs (more like an F1b Labradoodle) in temperament. The F1 has a very long wavy hair coat which is very attractive but
needs considerable grooming. The F1b has a dense very wavy fleece or thick hair coat.
Goldendoodles are very attractive dogs and in very high demand.
Dog or Bitch? With this cross it really doesn’t matter which. We recommend you neuter your puppy at between six and eight months. Dogs and bitches are equally easy to train. As a general rule dogs are considerably larger than bitches in height and weight.
So when you choose your Doodle you will need to consider the following :-
• Temperament - F1 (extremely outgoing – Labrador type personality)
F1b or F2b (more gentle – less extrovert)
• Sex
• Size
• Colour
• Coat - Hair coat or Fleece (low shedding) coat
It is important to note that as we specialise in cross breeds no guarantee can be given to height, weight or adult colour. We endeavour to give you approximate figures based on the parents, previous litters and our experience. However, as with your children, when you are breeding from a broad genetic base you will get variation within a litter and some puppies will mature larger or smaller and can resemble their grandparents or even great grandparents both in size weight and colour.
AVAILABILITYOur website is kept updated with information on the latest litters. Occasionally we have cancellations available at short notice.
We cannot forcast litters into the future as we mate our bitches naturally and do not induce seasons. If you telephone we can only give you due dates for puppies due to be born in the next 8 weeks.
Puppies leave us at 8 weeks of age therefore we are able to give you information on puppies that will be ready to leave us over the next 4 months.
